Maximize Profits When Selling Your Coin Collection

Posted on: 19 January 2019

Many collectors enjoy amassing coins because they have both monetary and historical value. If you have the right coins in your collection, they could be worth significantly more than their face value.

Selling your coins for maximum profit doesn't have to be challenging. All you need to do is invest a little time and effort into getting the coins ready to market to other collectors in your area.

Send Your Coins to CAC

You can easily increase the value of your coins just by sending them to the Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC). This third-party authentication entity can let potential buyers know that your coins are what you say they are.

A CAC certification instills confidence in buyers, and it can set your coin apart from comparable coins on the market. If you are planning to sell your coin collection at auction, you will see bids climb higher if you take the time to get the CAC seal of approval before making a sale.

Attribute Your Coins

It's important to recognize that the same coin model can come in many different varieties. Some varieties are more valuable to collectors than others. Novice collectors often make the mistake of selling a rare variety coin for much less than it's worth due to lack of information.

If you invest the time and effort required to attribute your coins, you will know exactly which variety they can be categorized under. This will help you set a better asking price and get the most out of your coins when the time to sell them arrives.

Clean Your Slabs

Most collectible coins are encased in acrylic covers referred to as slabs. These covers protect the surface of the coins from scratches, etching, or other types of damage that might lower the value. Slabs serve a valuable purpose, but they can detract from the value of your coins if they make it difficult to see the coin itself.

Older slabs should be cleaned and polished before you attempt to sell the encased coin. A clean slab lets potential buyers complete a full inspection of the condition of the coin, which will help the right buyer feel confident in making you a strong offer for your collection.

There is an art to selling coins for a profit. You need to put forth the effort required to present your coins in the best possible light so that you can maximize your profit on each coin sale. Contact a buyer, like Harlan J. Berk, LTD, for more help.
